Why Miley and Not Justin?

Hello and Welcome to Medi8tor,

Medi8tor is an entertainment blog that is meant to be a resource for entertainers and entertainment professionals. Medi8tor also stresses the importance of balance for entertainers, and entertainment professionals while seeking to foster understanding between entertainment professionals and entertainment consumers. Today we will be discussing a topic that has been feverishly trending on the Internet this week, and why Medi8tor disagrees with the hype.

On August 25th 2013 the masses watched as MTV’s annual Video Music Awards show took place at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn New York. The show was a mix of highs and lows, and the next morning everyone was a buzz about this moment at the VMA’s:

Miley Cyrus’ raunchy, sexually charged performance of ‘We Can’t Stop’ soon became a duet with Robin Thicke of “Blurred Lines” and Robin’s new single “Give It 2 U.” The performance blew up the Twittersphere and had the media buzzing all week about Miley’s “shocking” further deviation from her previous Disney Channel persona as Hannah Montana.

Naturally, we here at Medi8tor watched the performance via DVR once we awoke to social media timelines full of Miley Cyrus chatter, to see what the hype was all about. In our summation, the performance was not that shocking, particularly if you’ve watched Miley’s outlandish antics since releasing her twerking video on YouTube, and latest video for the single ‘We Can’t Stop.’

Instead, the Medi8tor staff found it ABSOULTELY shocking that there was little to no chatter in the media about this performance:

WOW! We still can’t believe that this was a 15-minute Justin Timberlake concert in the middle of an award show… that quite frankly WAS the award show. This performance was thoroughly rehearsed, demonstrated artistic prowess, modeled professionalism, and showed dedication, passion, and love for the craft of making music. It was also a perfect demonstration of why Justin Timberlake was being honored with the prestigious Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. Obviously, he deserves it and has been working hard for a number of years to achieve such a feat.

The Vanguard Award signifies Justin’s commitment and love of making music, while maintaining longevity in the industry through artistic integrity, and shows that he has the respect of the industry for all his years of hard work. But unfortunately, the public seems to feel differently. Instead of rewarding Justin’s career defining accomplishment and catalog of hits, we would rather esteem Miley’s foolishness and raunchy antics instead of giving credit where credit is due. Justin’s set was incredible, and his hard work should have been the top story after the VMA’s the next day.

But instead, people were more enthralled with Miley’s unrehearsed, sloppy performance. For people who were thoroughly outraged by Miley’s set, the solution to express that disgust was simple… ignore her. If we all stop rewarding Miley’s behavior by giving her attention, she’ll more than likely stop what she is doing. In addition, rather than throwing stones at Miley, which has been a theme this week, let’s show some compassion.  It’s obvious that she’s going through something in life, and is choosing to express that through her recent actions. Medi8tor hopes that Miley gets whatever help she needs, and is able to work through these issues and get back to what’s important- her talent and advancing her career, not flaunting her body.

In addition as a society, we should take the opportunities to celebrate artist and entertainers who are actually taking their craft, longevity, and service in their chosen fields seriously. If young people see that immature, silly behavior is not acknowledged, while work ethic is praised then they will not esteem inappropriate behaviors in public arenas. Instead they will be forced to understand that great work ethic reaps great rewards and accolades that only come through hard work, delayed gratification, self-respect and dignity.

Therefore we say, forget about Miley… this post is dedicated to Justin Timberlake. Medi8tor salutes you sir. Thank you for all your years of tireless work in the entertainment industry, the wonderful example of artistry that you have set through your work and personhood, as well as the catalog of great hits that you have put out throughout the years. Congratulations on your Vanguard Award, and we wish you continued success in the future.

We’ll that’s all for now Medi8tors. Until next time, keep bringing SEXY back!
